A re-design could be anything from a simple facelift to freshen up a site through to the development of a completely new one. So before embarking on a website re-design it’s important to have a good plan in place and to ask a few questions about your current website.
What’s effective in the current website design?
It could be that there are some aspects of the current design that work well, and these need to be kept and used in the new design.
What’s not effective in the current website design?
If an aspect of your current site isn’t working or it’s not getting the results you want then these need to be addressed in the new design.
Who are we targeting?
We have to keep our end users in mind, what style of website is going to appeal to them the most.
Can we improve navigation and usability?
How will your users want to move around your site, we’ll keep the navigation simple and logical to make it as easy as we can for them.
Does our logo or branding need to be updated?
Probably you already have a logo or are using some branding, is this going to be used in the new website? Will the old logo work with your new website?
Do we keep or change our website’s colour scheme?
Colour choices play an important part in any website design. If already have a popular site then subtle changes are best, we don’t want your regular visitors to think they’ve landed at the wrong website.
What do visitors want from our website?
Giving your customers what they want is vital to the success of any website. Will your visitors be looking for products? Information? Give your visitors what they want.
Can we improve the ranking of our website?
Search engines like google like your website to be rich in keywords that are relevant to your business. Using the page titles, tags, and the content to best advantage is the aim of search engine optimisation or SEO.
And finally…
Of course having a good basic design structure to your website also makes it easier for future redesigns and updates. Websites such as Amazon, Facebook and Google itself have all had redesigns over the years – although you’d hardly notice. The changes have all been subtlety introduced so new features look like they’ve always been there.
