My Web Design Process

GDS Web Design provides visual identities, graphics and web design services to businesses across Hampshire, West Sussex, Surrey, the UK and beyond. We help businesses communicate with their target audiences clearly, appropriately and successfully.

This guide demonstrates my work process, so you know what to expect each step of the way.

1. Requirements

What you will get from me

I ask you some questions to learn more about your company, objectives and available resources.

I will answer any questions you have about design and any technical issues.

What I will need from you

Tell me honestly about your company, product or services, your market and competition.

Explain the goals of your business and the reasons behind them.

2. Proposal

What you will get from me

I assess your needs and recommend the design strategy that best fits with your combination of goals, resources, and budget.

If any additional creative resources are needed for your project we will explain what we need and how we’ll get them.

I’ll write a proposal describing how we will work together, with clear explanations of process, timeline and payment terms.

What I will need from you

You review the proposal and ask any questions.

Together we will work on a design strategy, scope and timeline.

You agree to the proposal terms.

3. Concepts

What you will get from me

I’ll research your background, competitors and other factors specific to your project.

I’ll present a design concept (a guiding idea for the project) and initial concepts or mock-ups to your company.

I’ll ask for a deposit at this point before providing additional rounds of concept revisions based on your feedback.

What I will need from you

You provide me with feedback about the initial concept presented.

A deposit is required before continuing with concept revisions.

You select and approve one concept that will serve as a guide for the design to follow in the next steps.

4. Build Design

What you will get from me

For web design projects, I design the page layouts and site structure. Once approved I’ll build a demonstration website for your review and feedback.

You will begin to receive instructions and tuition on operating your website.

For visual identity projects, I design your company materials (letterheads, business cards, etc.) and create the visual identity usage guidelines.

What I will need from you

If you are providing the content, now is the time to give me rough drafts to review.

You review the demonstration website and provide feedback.

5. Develop Content

What you will get from me

If you are providing content, I will review it to ensure it aligns with the project goals and design concept. I’ll provide you with feedback, suggesting any alterations or improvements and execute revisions.

If I’m developing your content, I’ll provide a draft, receive your feedback, and execute any revisions.

I’ll insert the content into your demonstration website for your final confirmation.

What I will need from you

If you are providing the content, I must receive the final draft before we continue.

You review the demonstration website with the finished content in place, and approve everything for production.

6. Launch

What you will get from me

For web design projects, I provide the programming code and all necessary files.

I’ll transfer everything that’s needed into your live website hosting.

I’ll require full payment of the outstanding balance at this point.

What I will need from you

If we are using your choice of company for the domain name and hosting, I will need your passwords in order to transfer the website files.

7. Providing Support

What you will get from me

I retain a copy of your production files and creative assets so we can work together efficiently in the future.

For websites, I will fix any technical errors you may encounter.

You will receive email and telephone support along with access to the support area on our website.

I can provide future updates to your work on an hourly or project basis.

What I will need from you

Contact me if you:
