Do I need a website?

With so many people searching online for products and services these days it’s difficult to ignore the benefits that come from having a well designed website. Many people think that their product or service can’t be sold on the internet – so there’s no reason to invest in a website. While this is true for a small numbers of businesses that have walk in trade such as convenience stores, and fully booked tradesmen using word of mouth referrals, for most businesses there’s still plenty of compelling reasons why you should invest in a website.

What are my rivals doing?

If yours is a business where potential customers are likely to be using the web to find you – then yes you’ll definitely benefit from having a website. Try doing some searches online for your product or service, if while doing your searches you find that your rivals have a website, then the chances are they are gaining sales that could have been yours.

Compete with the big boys.

The great thing about the web is that for small or newly formed businesses you can compete head to head with much larger and more established businesses on a level playing field. With a well designed website your business can be made to appear larger, more established with greater professionalism than your rivals. We’ve also seen the opposite to this; large businesses with terrible websites that could potentially drive new customers away.

Affordable advertising.

Even if your business has no plans to sell online then a website is still one of the most cost effective forms of advertising available today. Well designed simple websites that promote your business effectively, outlining your services or products along with your contact details is usually enough to convince potential customers of your professionalism.

Professional web design.

But just having a website isn’t enough. Your website needs to look professional if your business is to be taken seriously. More and more people are using the internet to search for and find local products and services. Visitors are checking businesses websites before contacting them or visiting their actual premises – so your website could be the first chance you have to make a good impression. It’s better to have no website than to have a bad website – it really can harm the credibility of your business.
