It had been around 5 years since I worked with Jane on redesigning her website, so when she asked about some fairly major changes we agreed it was a good time to make some upgrades to her WordPress based website.

Jane was still pretty happy with the look of the website, so visually there’s very little change. Behind the scenes though the new site takes full use of WordPress’s new Gutenberg editor. This makes editing the content a lot more visual and opens up lots of opportunities for creating more complex layouts.

As with all my recent websites, I created a custom child theme, based on the Genesis Framework. This makes for secure, fast and accessible websites.

As part of the redesign I took the opportunity to listen to Jane about how she’d be getting on with running the website. After this we could remove some parts of the website that weren’t used and improve other parts that were proving troublesome. I always like to hear from clients and their workflows as I can usually help simplify or automate things.
