Around five years ago I built an e-commerce site using WordPress and the Jigoshop plugin for Charles from Natural Equine.
Five years is a long time on the web, and since then the e-commerce plugin I used, Jigoshop, was forked by Woo Themes and named WooCommerce where the development and improvements took place at a much faster rate. A couple of years later Automattic (the holding company of WordPress) purchased WooCommerce and things further improved. WooCommerce is now the most popular e-commerce solution for WordPress rivalling a lot of e-commerce only systems.
We were at a crossroads with Equine Natural. Jigoshop had just released version 2 of their plugin, which was a complete rewrite of the plugin so would mean a lot of work in order to keep the site running.
As Equine Natural was using an older version of Jigoshop it still shared a lot of similarities with WooCommerce, so switching systems was less of a problem.
Charles was still pretty happy with the design of the original site, so I kept most of the design intact, but made improvements to the navigation, image handling and responsive nature of the site. A few areas of the site weren’t really being used – so these were dropped.
I look forward to seeing the site continue to grow over the next five years.
