Gareth from PHL Professionals contacted me looking for help with setting up a recruitment site for the healthcare sector.
Requirements
- The site needed to be clean, modern and be as easy to navigate as possible.
- New employers and candidates needed to complete profiles, and have these manually approved by PHL Pro staff.
- New job listings and applications needed to be screened by PHL Pro staff.
- An internal messaging system, with automated messages to keep users updated.
- All personal information needed to be protected as much as possible.
- A News and Events area.
Employers
Once signed up new employers have to complete some business information and agree to the terms and conditions (and sign them online). A message is then sent to PHL Pro, where they manually approve the new employer.
Employers can then start listing their jobs. These are again screened by PHL Pro before being made public.
Approved applications are then available for the employers to assess; declining to moving into other stages (e.g. interview, offer).
Certain information supplied by candidates is only available once an application reaches certain stages.
Candidates
Once signed up new candidate have to complete a profile before being able to apply for jobs. Once approved they can then begin applying for jobs.
Messaging
Once of the complaints I heard about recruitment sites is that candidates often don’t know what happens once their application is made. So the PHL Pro site uses an internal messaging system to help keep both candidates and employers updated with automated messages.
Once an application reaches the interview stage the employer and potential candidate can communicate directly (to help combat cheating the system) using the messaging system.

User Experience
Each user gets their own dashboard to make it easy to get on with whatever they need to do.
As most users will either be an employers or candidate and they’ll either have been approved or not a lot of the sites content is customised around these factors to try and keep the site as personal as possible.
